Apprentice training – on site with Focus Training Group

As part of our commitment to ensuring fire engineers are correctly trained in the use of our products, we recently visited Focus Training Group in Plymouth to provide training to their latest apprentices.

The training, delivered by our Training Specialist – Paul Gatens, combined classroom learning with practical hands-on training which gave all those in attendance the opportunity to use the products first hand, carry out testing and ask any questions they had.  In addition to this, the content within the session also looked at the relevant standard and regulations which govern the testing and maintenance of fire detection systems and underlined the important role the fire engineer plays as the competent person tasked with testing and maintenance.

In previous years restrictions had meant that this training was delivered online, this year with no restrictions in place, it was great to get back onsite to deliver the training face-to-face and take advantage of the fantastic facilities at the Focus site.  The sessions were very well received, with good engagement from all in attendance in the form of questions and practical demonstrations.  A special thank you to Lloyd Bond, Fire & Security Training Assessor, for providing us with the opportunity to get involved with this session and for his support throughout the event.

“It’s fantastic to be invited to run this training, it’s well known that there is a shortage of engineers in the industry so to be able to support apprentices with their learning is extremely rewarding.”.

Plans are already underway for the next session in 2024 which will hopefully also include some time dedicated to refresher training for existing engineers as well as training for apprentices.
