DT Training and FIA CPD

With our products so widely used across the industry, training and compliance is something we place a significant focus on, related to this, and as long-time Fire Industry Association (FIA) members, it was fantastic to be able to attend and support the opening of the practical training area at the FIA Northwich site.

A fantastic facility, the new site provides the fire industry with a national centre of excellence and northern hub for not just training, but also events and meetings.

The dedicated training facilities are extremely impressive, with multiple training ‘bays’ created to provide those attending training sessions with the chance to gain hands-on experience of the products they need in order to carryout their work.

We were delighted to play a part in this by supporting the FIA with products from our Solo and XTR2 ranges, allowing training delegates to get hands on with the products they need to use to carry out functional testing.

At the member’s launch event, held by the FIA to officially unveil the site, the keynote presentation focussed on the work of the industry and the responsibility all members have to raise competency levels. The presentation pointed out, one part of competency is to be knowledgeable about relevant fire codes & standards, but another part is to have the relevant training for the fire detection and alarm systems and products people are working with.

Consequently, as manufacturers and suppliers to the fire industry, We, along with other industry manufacturers, have a key role to play here, and this has shaped our approach to product training and how we make it relevant and accessible to those that need it. Interestingly, our test products are distributed in over 140 countries so when we talk about training, we talk about training people from around the world.

Fire safety and promoting competency is a global priority and for a long time, many of our international customers have looked to Detectortesters as the global industry leader for help with CPD-certified training. This is where our collaboration with the FIA’s CPD Certification Centre has come in. Since 2020, we have partnered with the FIA who review and certify many of our webinar-based training courses.

This approach to our training has benefited our customers in many ways. Being the largest fire-related trade association in Europe means that the FIA has a wealth of technical expertise across the breadth of the fire industry. Basically, having our training courses reviewed by the FIA’s industry-leading technical experts has made them better and their stamp of approval has added extra credibility.
