Testing hard-to-access detectors at the University of Southampton

Ensuring all detectors are functionally tested – regardless of location is not an impossible challenge.  Our Scorpion solution ensures hard-to-access detectors and ASD systems can be tested as part of the standard maintenance visit - without the disruption typically associated with accessing these devices.

The University of Southampton is one of several universities in the UK where Scorpion has been installed.  The most recent installations have been within lift shafts and ceiling voids, both of which have smoke detectors installed.  Historically this has led to significant cost and disruption when it comes to system testing, however with Scorpion installed the detectors can now be tested easily, as part of the standard site visit and without the need to for third party personnel or distribution.

This has transformed the way the system is maintained – allowing the service provider, Premier Fire and Security, to deliver compliant testing of all detectors onsite and providing the facilities team at the university with peace of mind that all detectors, including the ones which are hard-to-access, are working correctly and ready to activate in the event of an alarm.

During a recent install, we joined Chris Chance from Premier Fire & Security on site to experience the benefits Scorpion has delivered to the university and understand the types of savings it has allowed them to make.  Check out the video for the full story or for more information on Scorpion, visit the product page on our website.
